ACREQ

ACREQ (Association pour la création et la recherche électroacoustiques du Québec). Organization founded in 1978 in Montreal by Yves Daoust, Marcelle Deschênes, Michel Longtin, Philippe Ménard, Jean Sauvageau, and Pierre Trochu. ACREQ was the first non university-affiliated organization in Canada exclusively dedicated to electroacoustic music. Its objective is to foster the promotion, performance, creation and research related to this musical genre. It gives exposure to local and foreign artists, to those entirely committed to music as well as to those using electroacoustics to explore new paths of creation.

The activities of ACREQ include the Printemps électroacoustiques (from 1983), the concert series Clair de terre at the Dow Planetarium (from 1989), Électro-Clip (1990, an international competition for electroacoustic miniatures) and sound creation workshops in elementary and secondary schools. The main organizations, composers, and artists who have taken part in ACREQ-sponsored events have included the Groupe de musique expérimentale de Bourges, the Circuit international des musiques électroacoustiques, the Groupe de recherches musicales, the Groupe de musique expérimentale de Marseille, François Bayle, Charles Dodge, Luc Ferrari, Pierre Henry, Léo Küpper, Michel Redolfi and Alain Savouret.

ACREQ has also co-produced several events, namely the multi-media shows OPÉRAaaAH by Marcelle Deschênes, and Carnaval by Yves Daoust, and the festivals 2001 (-14) and Montréal musique actuelles. It has commissioned works by the composers Serge Arcuri and Claude Lassonde.
