Canadian Musical Heritage Society/Société pour le patrimoine musical canadien.Founded in 1982 to assure the preservation and promote the study and performance of historical Canadian music through locating, selecting, editing and publishing compositions that are half a century old or older. The selection criteria include artistic merit, historical or social significance, Canadian significance even if the work was not written by a resident, or the first appearance in Canada of a given style, genre, form or medium. The board of directors, chaired by Helmut Kallmann, includes members of an editorial committee which reviews and approves the pre-selection by each volume's editor. Editorial committee members are John Beckwith, Clifford Ford, Frederick A. Hall, Helmut Kallmann, Elaine Keillor, and Lucien Poirier. The headquarters, in Ottawa, are run by the executive secretary, Clifford Ford. The society maintains an affiliation with Carleton University.
